Mission+Vision

The Mission of the CDCA is to promote all facets of the community included in the established legal boundaries known as the Channel District of Tampa, Florida. A driving force supporting this effort is to seek an “Arts Community” emphasis for the District.

The vision of the Channel District Community Alliance is to provide the vehicle for residents and businesses to come out of the residential buildings and into the community to build an urban arts village. The focus is to enhance the awareness of the Channel District, collaborate with neighboring districts, city government, and developers to make the Channel District one of the best neighborhoods to enjoy the benefits of urban Tampa.

Support the Channel District's performing arts and the LGBT community. See "5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche" playing at Stageworks Theatre through June 26th. ... See MoreSee Less

A word from our Producing Artistic Director: I was afraid to come to work yesterday. I was afraid to come to work because I was doing a play that has the word Lesbians in the title. I was afraid because I am a lesbian. I was afraid to come to my theatre -- my safe space. A space where I am constantly wrapped up in the warmth and energy of other artists for whom diversity and love is cherished. Then I was angry because I was afraid. And the only thing I know to do is keep doing what we have been doing. We will keep doing a play about lesbians who are celebrating the freedom to be who they are. We will keep doing plays about our Transgender, Gay and Lesbian brothers and sisters, our African mothers and fathers, our Latino and Hispanic aunts and uncles, our Asian and Native American cousins and our Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu sons and daughters. We will keep doing play that challenge convention. We will keep doing play that show respect for all and do harm to none. That is what Stageworks has always done and will continue to do. It is who we are.
